Katsina to commission first gas station as construction hits 90%

Katsina State will soon commission its first-ever Liquefied Natural Gas and Compressed Natural Gas facility as construction reaches over 90 per cent completion.

The historic project, being developed by Greenville LNG Ltd, represents a major step towards cleaner and more affordable energy solutions in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, recently inspected the facility and expressed satisfaction with the project's pace and quality.

Dr. Ahmed said the station will provide cheaper alternatives to diesel and petrol for vehicles while also generating electricity at lower costs for industries, businesses, and communities.

The Special Adviser also added that Governor Radda's administration created an enabling environment for the investment through supportive policies, transparent processes, and infrastructure development.

The project aligns with Nigeria's Decade of Gas policy, which aims to harness the country's natural gas resources for economic growth and cleaner energy transition.

"This project will not only reduce operating costs for transporters and businesses but also stimulate economic activity, create employment, and set Katsina on a path toward a more resilient and sustainable energy future," the Special Adviser said after the inspection.

"The site, handed over to Greenville LNG Ltd months ago, will benefit transport operators, industries, and households upon commissioning," Dr. Ahmed concluded.

The project positions Katsina as a leader in renewable and alternative energy adoption in Northern Nigeria while supporting the state's vision for energy innovation and sustainable economic development.
